If you are interested in becoming a middle or high school choir director, then Choral Music Education is the major for you. We have a small, tight-knit group of majors who are members of the collegiate National Association for Music Education (NAfME) and Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA). Majors follow a course of study which will result in their certification to teach Music K-12 in the state of Georgia; they also gain valuable experience as assistant directors of the ensembles, participating in both the administrative and musical aspects of being a director. Successful choral music education alumni are now teaching in the following counties among others: Baldwin, Bibb, Butts, Chatham, Forsyth, Gwinnett, Henry, Houston, Newton, and Upson. We have a Masters in Music Education program and welcome applications anytime . If you are interested in this major, please contact Dr. Jennifer Flory ([email protected]) for more information.
A good way to explore this major is through High School Choral Day, a biannual event held at Georgia College. The Max Noah Singers combine with high school students and choirs to rehearse and perform a number of choral works at the end of the day. If you are interested in attending or bringing a choral group to High School Choral Day, please contact Dr. Jennifer Flory ([email protected]) for more information.
